Daylilies:
2010 Region 4 Hosted by |

|
We would like to invite all members of Region 4,
friends, family, and guests, to attend the 2010 Summer Region 4 meeting to be held in the capital of New York, Albany.
Our hotel, the Best Western Sovereign Hotel, has free airport and train shuttle service and
is located with easy access to both I-87 and I-90. Parking is free and plentiful. The room rate is only $89 and includes a full
breakfast each morning.
We are featuring five gardens this year, those of Margaret Moon, John and Avis Randall, Carol Volungus,
Audrey Zeh and Christl Schmidt, as well as the spectacular Cornell Cooperative Extension gardens in Voorheesville, NY.
Since the gardens are centrally located, there won’t be long bus travel, and plenty of time to enjoy the free breakfast.
All five gardens feature daylilies both new and vintage in all forms and sizes, as well as fine collections of other perennials
and shrubs.
Friday evening after a light supper, we will have a special auction titled:
FOCUS ON FOUR
Featuring plants from our own Region
4 hybridizers. (HADS will be contacting all hybridizers with a proposition that you just can’t turn down!
See 'Focus On Four' details.) Saturday will feature
the garden tours, our Potting Shed Boutique, a banquet and general auction, and our special speaker from across the pond, that
always-entertaining Brit:
MIKE SHADRACK!
The Capital district of Albany has a wealth of other activities to enjoy both before and after the meeting, including such
noted sites as the Shaker Heritage Society, the New York State Museum featuring the 25,000 square foot ‘Windows on New York’
that includes a restored carousel and a documentary of the World Trade Center attacks. On the shores of the nearby Hudson River
is the USS Slater, a 1940’s time capsule of a restored WWII destroyer escort, and the Half Moon, a life-size replica of Henry
Hudson’s exploration ship. If you prefer a land and water tour, the Albany Aqua Ducks is always fun. For additional information,
go to Region 4’s web-site for links to the Summer Capital Affair, hotel and travel information, Open Gardens to visit on your way
here and back, Potting Shed info, and all the area highlights. |
